Air Fryer Toaster Oven Crispy Cauliflower with Lemon Tahini Drizzle

Golden, crispy cauliflower made entirely in your air fryer toaster oven — ready in 25 minutes with a lemon tahini drizzle that makes it genuinely hard to stop eating
Jump to Recipe

Cauliflower in the air fryer is one of those things that sounds simple and then kind of blows you away the first time you do it. The high-speed convection heat basically dehydrates the outside while the inside stays tender — you get edges that are genuinely crispy, not just soft and roasted. Regular oven cauliflower is fine, but this is faster and more satisfying.

I started making this version on weeknights when I needed a side dish that didn’t require me to babysit anything. The spice rub is simple on purpose — smoked paprika and cumin do a lot of work without making the dish taste like it belongs to a specific cuisine. And the lemon tahini takes about 90 seconds to make. That’s pretty much the whole effort here.

If you’re shopping for a new appliance or an upgrade, a quality air fryer toaster oven combo can handle this recipe and about fifty others without breaking a sweat — worth having. And if your current setup doesn’t include a dedicated air fryer basket for your toaster oven, that’s a small upgrade that improves airflow and crispiness noticeably.

Serve this as a side with roasted fish, alongside some warm pita, or honestly just on its own straight from the tray. It disappears fast either way.

Air-fried cauliflower florets get seriously golden and crispy in your toaster oven's air fryer mode, then hit with a punchy lemon tahini sauce right before serving. Fast, vegetarian, and honestly better than roasting the regular way.

Instructions

  1. Preheat your air fryer toaster oven to 400°F on the air fry setting. Give it a full 5 minutes to come up to temperature — it makes a real difference for that first burst of crispiness.

  2. Pat the cauliflower florets completely dry with paper towels. This is the one step people skip and then wonder why their cauliflower steams instead of crisps. Dry florets. Always.

  3. Toss the dried florets in a large bowl with the olive oil, smoked paprika, cumin, garlic powder, salt, and pepper. Get in there with your hands so every piece is coated.

  4. Arrange the florets in a single layer in the air fryer basket or on the air fryer tray. Don't crowd them — work in two batches if your appliance is on the smaller side (most 6-quart models can handle this in one go, but a compact unit will need two rounds).

  5. Air fry at 400°F for 18 to 22 minutes, flipping the florets once at the halfway point. You're looking for deep golden-brown edges and a slight char on the tips. Ours usually hits that mark right around 20 minutes.

  6. While the cauliflower cooks, whisk together the tahini, lemon juice, warm water, grated garlic, salt, and cayenne in a small bowl. It'll seize up and look lumpy at first — just keep whisking and add another splash of water if needed until it's smooth and pourable. Should be about the consistency of honey.

  7. When the cauliflower comes out of the oven, pile it onto a serving plate immediately. Drizzle generously with the lemon tahini, scatter over the parsley and sesame seeds, and serve with a lemon wedge on the side. Eat it hot.

Notes

Dry florets are non-negotiable for crispiness — even a little surface moisture turns into steam in the air fryer. If your tahini is particularly thick or bitter (brand quality varies a lot), start with just 1 tablespoon of lemon juice and taste before adding more. Leftovers keep in the fridge for up to 3 days; reheat at 375°F on air fry for 5-6 minutes to bring the crunch back. The tahini sauce keeps separately in a jar in the fridge for a week.
